BitBox
BitBox02
Swiss-made quality with microSD backup and touch glide controls
Our review
The BitBox02 is built in Switzerland by the small Shift Crypto team. It comes in a Multi edition (BTC plus altcoins) and a Bitcoin-only edition with stripped-down firmware to minimise the attack surface. microSD backup is unique among mainstream wallets and makes recovery faster than typing 24 words, if that is what you want. The privacy features in BitBoxApp, including coin control and Tor, are first-rate.
Best for: Privacy-focused users who want to run everything locally with microSD backup
Pros
- Open source firmware, independently audited
- Dual chip design with a Secure Element
- microSD for instant backup (write to paper after if you prefer)
- BitBoxApp ships with built-in Tor and full-node connectivity
Cons
- Fewer coins than Ledger and Trezor
- The classic BitBox02 has no iOS support
- Capacitive touch sensors take some getting used to
